The onus I remove thus was an impetus to become a better man even if I’d must needs enjoy a turn in the crucible. Human edification is about the only pursuit worthy of all difficulty for its own sake. Rarely does one answer a “why” by saying, “To make myself an objectively better person.”, but those rare occasions don’t see another “why” querying further into his motivation.
